Breast Care
Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers among women. The Imaging Center at Western Arizona Regional Medical Center provides a range of specialized women’s health services including screening and diagnostic 3D mammography, breast ultrasound, and biopsy.
We utilize imaging technology that may detect breast cancer at the earliest stages, when treatment can be most effective. The combination of caring technologists and imaging technology allows us to deliver quality care
Digital mammography
3D mammography (tomosynthesis) is a digital mammography available for all of our mammography screening, and is particularly helpful to those with dense breasts, allowing physicians to examine breast tissue layer by layer. Instead of viewing all the complexities of breast tissue in a flat image, as with traditional 2D mammography, fine details are more visible and no longer hidden by the tissue above or below. This improvement in visualization often increases invasive cancer detection rates and reduces callback rates.
The Imaging Center at Western Arizona Regional Medical Center is dedicated to providing peace of mind about all aspects of the mammography experience. All breast exams are performed by experienced staff members committed to making your mammogram as comfortable as possible. The staff understands that a mammogram is an intimate exam, and they are trained to be gentle while getting the best possible image of your breast. Mammogram results are read by specialized radiologists, and results are sent within 24 to 48 hours of appointment.
Breast ultrasound (sonography)
A breast ultrasound is often used to further evaluate and diagnose an abnormality found during a mammogram. Ultrasound allows doctors to see the area closest to the chest wall, which can be difficult to see using mammography or other breast imaging. This technology also helps doctors determine whether a breast lump is filled with fluid (a cyst) or is a solid mass and could be evidence of breast cancer.
Stereotactic/ultrasound Guided Breast Biopsy
When a lump or abnormal area is detected during screening, a biopsy can determine whether cells are cancerous. Advanced imaging technology — such as mammography or ultrasound— can be combined with minimally invasive techniques to obtain tissue samples in order to complete a diagnosis. Western Arizona Regional Medical Center offers digital stereotactic biopsies and ultrasound guided biopsies.
