Western Arizona Regional Medical Center is vital to Tri-state area

On hospital's 40 anniversary, WARMC delivers essential medical services and broad impact to the larger community
Western Arizona Regional Medical Center’s health system is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year of providing essential care to our community. Our growth in services is significant, from the 36-bed hospital that opened in 1984, to today’s 139-bed facility offering medical, surgical, emergent care and urgent care as well as 24/7 coverage in the WARMC Heart Center.
Over the past year, our Western Arizona Regional Medical Center team played a vital role at more than 161,000 encounters where we helped people get well and live healthier. Around the clock, every day of the year, regardless of holidays, weather or other disruptions – we are here for our community. The skills, talents and energy of our employees and physicians are the force powering all that we do and I am grateful for their steady focus on delivering safe, quality care and a compassionate experience for patients.
We care deeply about all the patients we serve. Life-saving medically necessary care is provided for all patients in our emergency room, regardless of their ability to pay. Members of our community who cannot fully afford their medical care are provided deep discounts or even charity care and we have resources to help them secure medications and medical support devices. Last year, we provided more than $30 million in charity and uncompensated care for the community’s most vulnerable.
The needs in our community are many and we are proud to support the work of local schools, and fire and police charities throughout the Tri-state as they address social determinants of health. As well, WARMC team members are initiating acts of service throughout the area, such as Learn the Beat CPR lessons for more than 800 area eighth graders, and the Jars of Love drive collecting peanut and other nut butters for food banks in Bullhead City, Laughlin and Needles, CA.
WARMC continues to grow and evolve and we are applying our resources toward the services, facilities and technologies that are important to our patients. These include work to strengthen cardiac care through the opening of the WARMC Heart Center with four interventional cardiologists who are performing advanced procedures in WARMC’s new cardiac cath lab, providing more than 100 heart catheterizations each month in 2023. Access has been enhanced with the opening of Northwest Urgent Care in the Target Shopping Center and recruitment of two general surgeons which means more surgical opportunities are available here locally. The recruitment of five family practice physicians and practitioners to Bullhead City and Fort Mohave means more access to primary care is more readily available in the Tri-state area.
Capital improvements totaling more than $4.5 million were made in 2023, including the ER waiting room and triage system to enhance the patient experience, a new $1 million generator to ensure continued medical care during major power outages, the new cardiac cath lab and the new urgent care clinic, giving WARMC the opportunity to provide care for both minor and major emergencies seven days per week.
Our impact extends beyond our campus, including the more than $9 million in taxes we pay that support critical infrastructure such as first responders, schools and roads. And the payroll of more than $55 million ripples through the local economy as employees buy goods and services.
Today, WARMC continues to perform a vital role in our community through the commitment and compassion of every member of our team. We are honored to serve and extremely proud of our hospital’s $109 million community impact in 2023.
