WARMC Fights Hunger Through Its Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive

BULLHEAD CITY -- Western Arizona Regional Medical Center concluded its Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive to benefit Bullhead Regional Food Bank and its affiliates, creating a gigantic, protein-packed pyramid with 4,026 jars collected, 101% of the staff’s goal.

Just in time for National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day on April 2, the drive will provide plenty of peanut butter to six community food banks, to address food insecurity in the Colorado River Valley. Bullhead Regional Food Bank estimates that nearly 17 percent of the residents in our county are living in a food-insecure home. Peanut butter is high in nutritional value and has a long shelf life, making it a much needed item for food banks.

“This is going to be a ramp up into summer,” said Stephen Brown, executive director the Bullhead Area Regional Food Bank. “This will be a blessing to low income families that would normally be provided a lunch at school. Kids will be able to have sandwiches throughout the day, while they are out for summer.”

This is the third year for the drive at WARMC, and a significant increase in the number of jars collected over the past two years, when WARMC staff collecting about 600 jars each year, in 2023 and 2024.

“What an uplifting project to work on,” said Amber Moore, chairman of the drive at WARMC. “We loved working with Stephen from the Food Bank as well. He brought a lot of heart to the drive.”

Moore also praised the many community merchants who put up collection boxes and provided very generous staff donations as well. Area business offering space for collection boxes included Mad Dog Gym, Planet Fitness, Foothills Bank, National Bank of Arizona, Ashley Furniture, Voodoo Cove, American Legion Post 87, VFW, Elks, Moose, and Legacy Foundation. Groups who also collected staff donations include Bullhead Safeway, DOT Foods, Dice Girls of Chaparral Country Club, Senior Circle, First Marine Division Bullhead City, and Bullhead Morning Kiwanis.

“We already can’t wait for next year!” Moore said. “We look forward to continuing this worthwhile project and we have so many ideas for collecting even more peanut butter to fill hungry tummies.”

Bullhead Regional Food Bank will be sharing the bounty with Needles Salvation Army, Firehouse Ministries, Mohave Valley United Methodist Church, and Colorado River Food Bank in Laughlin.
